The Queen and the Duke have a happy history with Malta. Today accompanied by its Prime Minister in the warmth of the Maltese dusk, they returned to streets that would have been very familiar to them. Among those waiting to meet them, some couples who shared their wedding day sixty years ago, and clearly their secret for a successful marriage.

Photographer Frank Attard has taken pictures of the Queen every time she's visited Malta. “I think she feels, she feels so safe on the island hereof. She is one of us.”

The Queen and the Duke certainly do seem particularly at ease here. It was the Duke himself who decided 1 that they should spend the actual day of their anniversary on Malta for this very private of public couple's quite romantic gesture. “Finished?” Ha-ha.

The aim of royal reporting is to get up close to those you’re talking about, but it’s not often that it is that close, but this was a particularly informal trip, no official banquets or engagements. In fact although he looked bemused at my talk of romantic gestures. When they left here, the Duke was taking the Queen out for dinner at dark.
