Today marks China's annual youth day. Chinese Youth Day was established in 1949 to commemorate the beginning of the May 4th Movement.

The movement in 1919 was a student protest that grew out of dissatisfaction with the Treaty of Versailles. It is seen in China as a patriotic movement against imperialism and feudalism.

The May 4th Movement bred the great spirit of patriotism, progress, democracy and science. It inspired the Chinese people to be united and hard-working.
