HSBC, Britain’s biggest bank, said its headquarters would remain in London. The lender had pondered returning to Hong Kong, its base until the early 1990s. Recently Britain’s government recast its “bank levy”, which has cost HSBC $1.5 billion a year; HSBC’s chairman, Douglas Flint, told the B*C it had applied 1 “no pressure”, although “the government was well aware of our view”.
