A meeting to discuss the crisis in Yemen has been postponed by the UN, following a request by the Yemeni government and several other key stakeholders. The government in Yemen says it wants more time to prepare.
The talks were scheduled to open in Geneva on Thursday. A spokesman for Ban Ki Moon said the UN Secretary General is now working to convene the talks " at the earliest possible time".
The meeting was aimed at restoring momentum towards a Yemeni-led political transition process. In his statement, Ban warned of the steadily "deepening humanitarian crisis" in Yemen and said he was acutely aware that delaying the meeting would exacerbate the situation.
Ban's spokesman says he's instructed his envoy to consult with the Yemeni government, Yemen's political groupings and countries in the region "with the aim of producing a comprehensive ceasefire and the resumption of peaceful dialogue".
